I proceeded up the trail from Petroglyph Plaza, joining what seemed like a throng of people after my previous day with hours of not seeing anyone. But it’s not crowded by city standards at any rate.
The nice concrete “trail” only goes to Petroglyph Plaza, so no wheelchairs or really mobility challenged beyond here to the falls. It’s still a pretty easy trail. I saw people with baby strollers “4X4ing” through the rougher sections of trail. The very last part involves some easy scrambling, so they carry the kids that short distance.
There were more petroglyphs along the way, more than I expected. This rock was just covered in them.
This rock had a lot less, but nice individual elements, like the animal head, and the individual symbols clear and separate.
You wonder what they meant drawing these, sad that we’ll never know for sure. Then there is this great individual symbol that reminds me of a lizard.
Then we have the stupidity that is “Tony” as displayed on the next picture. “To the last, I grapple with thee; From Hell’s heart, I stab at thee; For hate’s sake, I spit my last breath at thee.” – Herman Melville, and also one of the best villain deliveries ever of a line by Ricardo Montebelo in “Wrath of Khan”. Tony, same goes out to you.
I arrive at the end of the trail where the waterfall would be if there was rain to find a gaggle of people, some splashing in the water, some being stupid testosterone fueled idiots trying to climb the walls to the side. People suck sometimes. But it made for some pictures at any rate.
Sure, show me what a man you are, climbing along the rocks for no reason.
But eventually the gaggle leaves, leaving me with a couple of respectful older ladies who also just wanted to take photos. Finally, I could get my photo, The black bit on the right top is where what little water there is is coming down.
I enjoyed the relative solitude for the few minutes I had before another group appeared behind me, then proceeded back down the trail. Sorry if I’m seeming harsh on humans in this, but the normal behavior of people that destroys the environment is grating on me down here right now. But we got a nice vista looking back out to one of the “guard knolls” that I passed in my zen moment of the previous post.
I sat down to have lunch with this view, only to find out that I had left my lunch in the fridge back at the RV, thinking a few more minutes of chilling would be a good thing. So much for an easy stroll back; now it was a death march to get back before I starved to death. OK, it wasn’t THAT bad, but I was miffed that I couldn’t sit down at the quiet little corner I had found and enjoy my lunch. For the record, I did bring enough water this time at least!
